If you’ve ever submitted pages to an agent or editor and wondered what makes one manuscript stand out from the hundreds of others—here’s the answer: voice.
When I worked as a literary agent, I could tell within a page whether a book was going to capture my attention. The concepts varied, the genres shifted, but the common thread was always the same: a voice that felt singular, confident, and alive. Those were the manuscripts I couldn’t put down—the ones that made me want to curl up with a cup of tea and read straight through.
Voice is the heartbeat of your novel. It’s what transforms good writing into unforgettable storytelling. And yet, it’s also one of the most elusive elements of craft to master. You can’t outline your way into a strong voice or mimic your favorite authors to find it—it’s something you develop through awareness, intention, and practice.
That’s exactly what this workshop will help you do.
In this 60-minute live, hands-on session, you’ll:
This isn’t a passive lecture—you’ll write, test, and play with your craft in real time. Whether you’re drafting your first novel or revising your tenth, you’ll leave with new insights and tools to bring your voice to life on the page.
Most writing workshops talk about voice. This one helps you experience it.
Instead of listening to slides or examples for an hour, you’ll actively experiment with voice-building techniques during the session. You’ll discover how much range and richness already exist in your natural writing style—and how to refine it into something that feels unmistakably “you.”
I’m Karyn Fischer—an Author Accelerator Certified Book Coach, former literary agent at BookStop Literary Agency, and an MFA graduate in creative writing from Lesley University. I’ve helped countless writers find and strengthen their voice so they can write stories that stand out to agents, editors, and readers alike.
My goal is to demystify the craft of voice and give you tools to access what already lives inside you.
